G.E.’s Breakthrough Can Put 100 DVDs on a Disc

    GE unveils holographic disc breakthrough

The process works by imprinting chemical changes in the form of patterns –- holograms –- within the disc. Those holograms are then read by lasers, similar to the ones in Blu-ray players. In fact, at 500GB, these holographic discs could offer 20 times the capacity of a single-layer Blu-ray disc.

Twitter can make you immoral, claim scientists

New evidence shows the digital torrent of information from networking

A study suggests rapid-fire news updates and instant social interaction
are too fast for the 'moral compass' of the brain to process.

The danger is that heavy Twitters and Facebook users could become
'indifferent to human suffering' because they never get time to reflect
and fully experience emotions about other people's feelings.

D-roll laptop concept rolls up into a scroll, wears like a purse
    D-roll-laptop-concept-by-Hao-Hua.jpg
The D-roll, or "digital roll," is what designer Hao Hua considers to be a "next generation laptop design," as it does away with the book-like form factor in favor of one mimicking an artist's scroll. Whether or not something like this will even be possible in the near future seems to matter less when you look at how much effort Hua put in the design.

Up above you can see the D-roll set up like a regular laptop, and it's easy to imagine how portable it'd be all rolled up. There's an in-between configuration that you could theoretically use to browse email quickly, and the straps double as places to plug in your USB devices. It also has a detachable webcam you could use on the computer or wear on your wrist.

Intelligent car door clams up when danger's about

Accidents caused by car doors being opened into the path of oncoming vehicles or cyclists are common in cities. But these incidents could become a thing of the past, if doors that react to potential impacts catch on.

The brainchild of Michael Graf at BMW and Michael Strolz's team at the Technical University of Munich, the "haptic" – technology that gives tactile feedback – doors could cut both road injuries and repair bills, they say.

The current prototype looks like a normal car door, but an extra metal bar runs through its centre and connects to the car's frame between the hinges. In normal mode, the bar moves freely and doesn't affect the door's movement.
