GE's next generation disc technology
G.E.’s Breakthrough Can Put 100 DVDs on a Disc
General Electric says it has achieved a breakthrough in digital storage technology that will allow standard-size discs to hold the equivalent of 100 DVDs.
GE unveils holographic disc breakthrough
The process works by imprinting chemical changes in the form of patterns –- holograms –- within the disc. Those holograms are then read by lasers, similar to the ones in Blu-ray players. In fact, at 500GB, these holographic discs could offer 20 times the capacity of a single-layer Blu-ray disc.
Another big step forward in GE’s holographic data storage program
Hologram test: A prototype of GE’s holographic storage disc undergoes testing at GE Global Research, in Niskayuna, NY. The green lasers record a hologram; the red laser monitors its performance. The discs, which could eventually hold one terabyte of data, are the same size as current DVDs and CDs. Future players should be able to play all formats.

Philips OLED interactive lighting concepts
At the Euroluce International Lighting Fair in Milan, Philips is showing world’s first OLED lighting concepts that involves human interaction. The lights are suited for both professional as well as consumer use and feature ultra flat shape and soft light effects.
OLEDs are very versatile and can vary incredibly in color and brightness. What’s more, they can create homogeneous light surfaces in almost any shape, pattern, vibrancy and color. Thanks to this versatility, OLEDs can create a spectacular range of new and innovative lighting effects that can enhance the look and feel of almost any environment in fresh and innovative ways.

Relational Pillow
The pillows are capable of sensing touch information, and displaying incoming touch data as a pattern of lights that show the outline "drawn" upon the remote pillow. Pillows can connect to each other over the network so that this sense of touch can be shared across long distances. |

The Blue Space -- A Pedal-Powered Submarine
BLUE SPACE PEDAL-POWERED SUBMARINE OFFERS AN UNDERWATER SPECTACLE FOR UP TO $70K FOR TWO
The Blue Space is a pedal-powered sub created by the Saint-Petersburg State serviceman Engineering University. The image has been around since 2003, but is ease hunting for investors to invoke real.
According to MIT, its underwater craft differs from comparable small tourist submarines in overcoming some of the difficulties associated with the use of traditional screw propulsion and accumulator batteries to generate motion. These kinds of submarine tend to be complex to control and service and require specialized training to operate.
Pedal power: Using revolutionary design, Marine Innovation Technologies' Underwater Vehicle can be powered by just two people pedaling
The see-through design means there's no fighting for a window seat
MIT has ensured the UV is simple to operate, with only foot pedals, steering wheel and minimal buttons and indicators to worry about

D-roll Laptop Concept
D-roll laptop concept rolls up into a scroll, wears like a purse The D-roll, or "digital roll," is what designer Hao Hua considers to be a "next generation laptop design," as it does away with the book-like form factor in favor of one mimicking an artist's scroll. Whether or not something like this will even be possible in the near future seems to matter less when you look at how much effort Hua put in the design.

Moixa Multitouch Sphere
Despite all of its various reinventions the basic design of the mouse hasn't changed very much--it's still the same old pointing device we know and love. But Moixa's newly patented Sphere is such a radical rethink, melding mouse and touchscreen in one, that it's truly a taste of the future. Moixa is awarded a patent on its apple sized multi-touch sphere that can be used to display the world (e.g. Google Earth), browse web pages or control interactive games. In Moixa tradition, Sphere can also be collapsed, used and stored in its second form - a flat ellipsoid. The patents, filed in 2004 also disclose advanced multi-touch surface interaction and gyroscopic control benefits.
